Ryan, KS | How to measure rainfall?
Does anyone know how a meterologist measures rain? We just did an experiment with different size rain catchers to figure out how to measure rain. We got different results with each rain catcher, measuring in inches and in ounces.

Lucy, KC | Storm Noise II
Hi! I am not sure what you are talking about, but I'll tell you why I think thunder makes so much noise. Did you know that lighting comes before thunder? See why you hear thunder is because of friction of the clouds rubbing agenst each other. I may not be right on any of this, but it's worth a shot. bYe! LuCy

Brittany, MD | Thunder Storms...
Well, I love thunder storms, sea cretures, snakes, and sports. I wanted some ideas on a great investigation. And I might need some help.

Stephanie, 8, NF | What's your weather like?
its a nice day here whats it like out your way? sunny rainy cloudy snowey?

Ashley, 11, VA | Weather
Dear kid
s, I just want to tell you that weathering and other stuff is sweet.I hope the kids will like weathering when thay get older.

Daniel, 18, MO | Professor Bluestein
I wanted to find out where the professor named Howie taught at. I saw that program today where he chases tornados. It would be great if he's from where I'm going to college because I'm planning to major in meteorology!

DragonflyTV | Professor Bluestein response
Howie Bluestein is a professor at the University of Oklahoma

Hope, 9, TN | Checking the sky
I been looking at the sky and the the weather seeing if you
wher right

Robert, 12, NC | Another way to make a tornado
I think you could make a tornado in a diffrent way. Use a humidifier, an air conditioner, & a clear tube/box with sand in the bottom.

1.) somehow get the vents of both the warm humidifier & the air conditioner to send air only into the tube/box.
2.) seal off each end of the box/tube you directed the vents through.
3.)cut a few slots in the top of the box/tube about big enough for 2 or 3 nickles to fit through.
4.) turn on the humidifier and air conditioner to low.
The hot moist air from the humidifier, should mix with the dry cold air from the air conditioner, making a tornado. The sand the mini-twister should pick up is supposed to make the funnel visable.(you may need to put a fan on the little slits in the top to help form the tornado.)This should theoretically work, considering this is how most natural twisters form. You may need to vary the the setting on the AC and humidifier to achieve the F0.0000 whatever tornado.

Lorie, 31, OH | Make a tornado
I have a question about your tornado model that was made on the show. Where exactly was the placement of the fans? My son was trying this experiment.

DragonflyTV | Make a tornado response
I'll admit that I tried making my own tornado, too, after watching Sullivan do his... it is not easy! To place the fans, put the top fan over a hole in the center of the chamber. As Sullivans' results indicated, this fan is crucial to getting a good vortex. The stronger the fan, the better, and of course, make sure it blows UP, not down into the chamber. The side fan is less critical, but I would aim it into the chamber at a side wall, not right through the center of the chamber, and I would start with a low setting. This fan only needs to nudge the air in a sideways direction... some tornado models don't even use a side fan, just some side vents.
Again, I think the most critical thing is to get a good strong updraft fan. Good luck!!

Puneet, BC, 10 | Make a tornado
How do you make tornado????????????

Alicia, 5, NY| Make a tornado
How do you make a tornado?

Danielle, 10, MN | Tornado Experiment Ideas
I am trying to find out more about the tornado experiment done on March 2nd, on dragonfly tv. Can you help? Sullivan and Alexa did a fan experiment and I would like to know how they did it. Can you give me more details on their experiment or will the show be replayed where I can just view it again.

DragonflyTV | Tornado Experiment Ideas response
The best thing to do is to look at the Explore DFTV link on the left of this page. Select the Weather show, and click on the button for Tornado model. You can read about Sullivan and Alexa's experiment there.

Andy, OH | Tornado vortex
My question is where can I find the experiment of a tornados vortex

DragonflyTV | Tornado vortex repsonse
A description of that investigation is found in the Explore DFTV portion of our site. You can read about Sullivan and Alexa's work there. For some detailed instructions on building your own tornado generator, try Weather Photography Web site.

Ryan, 8, CA | Stop a thief with Tidal Waves
In the episode that explored using a tidal wave for security, I decided that would be possible. You could have everything you talked about except for the sharks and paranias. When burglar swims across the water or moat he wouldn't be able to get in because the door is fortified like a draw bridge. If the burglar took a boat over to the house and he tried to climb onto the roof, his body pressure from standing on the roof would send a message to activate hoses to push him back into the water.

Alex, 8, OH | Storm Experiment Ideas
can you please send me some experiments reguarding how to make storms with water and or fans?

Mayi, 8, OH | Storm Noise
Why are storms are loud?
