We found out that the bubble gum weighed less after chewing for
10 minutes. On our kitchen scale it weighed 5 grams before and 1
grams after. We thought it would be lighter since the gum was very
sugary, but we were still surpised by how much less it weighed.
We only ran the experiment 1 time since we could only find 1 piece
of gum.

When I weighed it at first it was lighter than I weighed it after
I chewed it. My reasoning is that some of my saliva was in there
so it weighed more. Plus it was wet and most wet objects weigh more
than dry objects.

the sugar gum weighs more then before chewing probably because it
took in spit. But after a while weighs less because the sugar disolved
in your mouth.With sugar-less gum the weight changed after the inital
taking in of spit but stayed the same afterward probally because
it didnt have anything to disolve.

I tried regular gum. I thought it would be heavier because it would
have you saliva in it but I was wrong. The gum itself weighed 1/2

This was my very first experiment. I went to the mall with my mom
to buy two gumballs out of the gumball machines. This was exciting
by itself since I am only three and a half years old. I told my
mom that I thought the gum would weigh more after chewing because
of the added weight of saliva. But, I was wrong. Before chewing
weight was .50 oz., and after chewing weight totaled .10 oz. Thanks
for the fun idea.

IOur hypothesis was that the gum would weigh less after bieing chewed.
We weighed two gumballs on a scale. Together, they weighed 10 grams.
Then we chewed the gum for 10 minutes. We put the chewed gum on
the scale and weighed it also. It weighed about 1.5 grams. We think
the gum weighed less after it was chewed becaues if you chew something,
it begins to dissolve. Our hypothesis was correct.

I wondered if gum was heavier after it was chewed than before it
was chewed. First, I tried full sugar bubble gum. I thought that
the gum would be lighter, because I would swallow the sugar. Before
chewing, it weighed ½ ounce. After chewing, it weighed ¼ ounce.
My prediction was correct. Second, I chewed sugar-free gum. The
sugar-free gum had the same result. I swallowed the artificial sweeteners.
