First I put the ice-cube into water then i put the string and waited
for 30 seconds. It worked! Then I tried to lift it with pepper. It
didn't work with pepper. Then I tried it in Coce. I poered the Coce
instead of water. Then I put the string and salt after and held for45
seconds. And it lifted for a very long time.

Kris | Ice Fishing
Hi! my name is Kris. I did the ice fishing and it was so cool. First
I did salt, and it worked! Second, I did pepper, but it didn't work.
I used other things like baking soda and so on but they didn't work.
it was cool.

Raquel, NJ | Ice
Fishing
My name is Raquel. I am ten years old. I did my experiment with
black and white pepper. Before I started, I made a prediction. I
thought that both were going to have the same reaction because they
were both peppers. I was right. The peppers made the ice erode and
it didn't stick to the string. I also tried many other things. I
tried salt, chili powder, paprika, baking powder, bread crumbs,
parsley flakes, and oregano. Only the salt, chili powder, and paprika
worked. The baking powder, bread crumbs, and parsley flakes, and
oregano didn't work. I had fun doing the experiment.

Sarah and Marina, UT | Ice Fishing
My sister Marina and I used salt, pepper, garlic powder, and ginger.
The only thing that worked for us was the salt. The pepper and garlic
pwoder both just didn't do anything, and the ginger came out of
the jar in little lumps, so we couldn't get it onto the ice cube.

We were only able to get one ice cube out of the water. I just put
on salt and waited. I think the salt got into I tried using salt
and pepper and it held for 30 seconds and I tried a little bit of
salt and that held for 10 secs I tried a little bit of pepper that
did not work. I tried a mix of the two with a little bit.

Jack, CA | Ice Fishing
My name is Jack. I am 5 and go to kindergarten. I like Dragonfly
TV. I did the ice fishing do it.
With pepper the string just peeled off. The same thing happened
with cinnamon.
With salt the ice cube stuck.

Henry, IL | Ice Fishing
We were only able to get one ice cube out of the water. I just put
on salt and waited. I think the salt got into the water and turned
it into an ice block and connected it together.

Grace, IN | Ice Fishing
Ok first I tried the salt and it worked. So then I tried pepper
but it did not work. After I fond out pepper did not work I tried
suger and it held on for about a secend. Then I tried suger and
pepper together and it worked supprizingly.

Olivia, IL | Ice

I used pepper, wheat germ, and sugar and I was able to catch some
ice!! Then I tried it with just water and nothing else but it didn'
t work. It seems like you need something else in the water to catch
the ice. By the way I like your DO ITS a lot because I think they're
fun and interesting.

Michelle, IL | Ice
Fishing
I tried this experiment. I used pepper, salt, cinnamon, celery salt,
and black and red pepper blend.Only the salt and black and red pepper
blend allowed me to catch an ice cube. We figured out that the salt
worked because it caused the ice cube to melt around the string
and made it stick.

Bekah, MN | Ice Fishing
I tried salt... which worked very well. I also tried sugar which
didint work at all. The last one I tried was Lawrey's Seasoning
Salt.
Micah and Andy, MO | Ice
Fishing
used salt, sugar, pepper, flour. The only thing that worked is salt

Brandon | Ice Fishing
I tried salt, pepper, oregano, and garlic powder, four times each.
Only salt worked. I think this works because salt melts the ice
but then the salt goes into the water. The melted water then freezes
up again so the string gets stuck. Thats why they use salt
on roads to melt the ice.

Jacy, MN | Ice Fishing
First I collected the materials that were needed. When I started
with the salt and ice, I found that the salt melts the ice and then
it refroze over the string. You could then lift up the string and
the ice cube would be hanging from it. I tried doing this experiment
with other substances like sugar, pepper, baking soda, and baking
powder. I found that none of them worked like salt did to make the
string stick to the ice cube. The experiment was cool.
